Kazakh-Russian trade turnover grows by about 40 %

ASTANA, February 4 -- The volume of trade between Kazakhstan and Russia over 11 months of 2010 increased by 39.2 percent, the Kazakh Ministry of Economic Development and Trade (MEDT) reported. “Exports of Kazakh products to Russia grew by 47 percent,” the report says.

As a whole, according to the MEDT information, volumes of trade with the countries of the Customs Union increased by 40 percent and reached 16 billion dollars. The share of Russia and Belarus is equal to 19.9 percent of Kazakhstan’s total trade turnover.

As the MEDT notes, apart from the work within the framework of the Customs Union and the creation of the Common Economic Space, Kazakhstan’s joining the World Trade Organization (WTO) is an important priority. In 2010, the talks on the conditions of access of goods from the United States and the European Union to the Kazakh market were concluded. “Further issues of Kazakhstan’s joining the WTO will be coordinated with the partner-countries of the Customs Union,” the MEDT report says.
